Live: Sensex Gains Over 150 Points, Nifty Above 8,050


Sharemasterindia.com 9:20 a.m.: The Sensex and Nifty moved higher in the opening deals today on the back of broad-based buying.

The broader markets were trading buying interest. The BSE mid-cap and small-cap indices were up over 0.5 per cent each.

On the sectoral from, buying was seen in IT, pharma, banking, metal and realty stocks, While, some amount of selling pressure was visible in oil & gas and power stocks.


From the Nifty-50 basket of stocks, 33 stocks were advancing while 17 were declining.

Tata Steel was the top Nifty gainer; the stock jumped 2.3 per cent to Rs 301.30 after reports suggested that workers at its UK plant called off strike.

Asian Paints, Cipla, Infosys, Coal India, HUL, HDFC, Dr Reddy's Labs and Hero MotoCorp were also among the gainers.

On the other hand, Vedanta, BPCL, Tata Power, GAIL India, reliance Industries and Cairn India were among the laggards.

The overall breadth was positive as 879 stocks were advancing while 409 were declining.

9:15 a.m.: Sensex jumps over 150 points to 26,844, Nifty above 8,050 on broad-based buying.

9:00 a.m.: Rupee opens higher at 64.18/dollar against Tuesday's close of 64.24.
