Live: Sensex Edges Higher, Nifty Above 8,350


Sharemasterindia.com 10:03 a.m.: SpiceJet shares advanced 5.6 per cent to hit 52-week high of Rs 28.10 after the company posted its best ever first quarter numbers yesterday.

9:56 a.m.: Sensex jumps 83 points to 27,542 and Nifty gains 24 points to 8,361.

9:47 a.m.: Won't put my money in companies with high price to earnings ratio like Sun Pharma or TCS, says Shankar Sharma of First Global.

9:43 a.m.: Shankar Sharma of First Global says that there is a 'stealth' bull market on in mid-cap and small-cap stocks.

9:35 a.m.: Prateek Agarwal of ASK Investment Managers says that it is great time for investors to take advantage of the current market consolidation.

9:33 a.m.: SpiceJet looks good on charts, medium-term investors can hold on, says market expert Rajat K Bose.

9:30 a.m.: From the Nifty-50 basket of stocks, 29 stocks were advancing while 21 were declining.

Vedanta was the top Nifty gainer, up 1.75 per cent at Rs 130. Tata Steel, Zee Entertainment, HDFC, HCL Tech, Yes Bank, Tata Motors and Axis Bank were also among the gainers.

On the other hand, Punjab National Bank was the top loser on the Nifty. The stock fell nearly 3 per cent to Rs 137.75 on account opf profit-booking after yesterday's up move. ONGC, ITC, Dr Reddy'a Labs, Bharti Airtel and NTPC also fell 0.8-1.7 per cent each.

9:20 a.m.: The Sensex and Nifty edged higher in the opening deals on the back of buying in blue-chip counters such as HDFC, Tata Steel, HUL and Infosys.

The Sensex was up 45 points at 27,504 and Nifty added 12 points to 8,349.

On the sectoral front, banking, select metal and auto stocks were witnessing buying interest. Some amount of buying was also visible in banking, capital goods, IT and FMCG stocks.

The broader markets were outperforming in the opening deals. The BSE mid-cap index was up 0.6 per cent and the small-cap index advanced 0.5 per cent.

9:15 a.m.: Sensex jumps over 100 points on higher Asian markets, Nifty moves above 8,350.

9:12 a.m.: Market expert Rajat Bose says that for a meaningful rally in the markets Nifty has to sustains above 8,413 levels.

9:08 a.m.: The Sensex jumps 81 points to 27,540 and Nifty advances 27 points to 8,364 in the pre-market session.

9:00 a.m.: Rupee opens higher at 63.87 per dollar against Tuesday's close of 63.91.

8:45 a.m.: PVR: PVR has planned to install Dolby Atmos in 50 screens in India and also plans to open 150 low cost screens.

Amtek Auto: Amtek Auto plans to raise funds via issue of equity and NCD's.

J Kumar Infra: J Kumar Infra bagged a construction orders worth Rs 281 crore.

8:35 a.m.: Biocon's clinical research arm Syngene's IPO was fully subscribed on its second day.
