According to sources, Bharti Airtel
, Vodafone and Idea Cellular
have responded to TRAI's (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) paper
on promotional offers.
The companies have put forth a few demands and have urged the regulator
to set up standard norms on promotional offers across the board.
They have asked for imposition of penalty on players that violate terms
set by regulators and have also demanded legal action against telecom
service providers (TSP) that do not fall in line.
New entrant Reliance Jio has made life difficult for players who are
unable to provide substantial discounts to their customers. These
players now want TRAI to set ground rules and are demanding that a limit
be imposed on the number of offers a telecom provider can give. Among
the proposals put forth, they have sought the offers must not reduce or
bring down base voice tariff rates and the offer period should not
exceed 30 days.
Airtel, Vodafone and Idea have said that the offers should provide
additional benefits and not disguised price cuts.
Earlier today, it was reported that Vodafone will do away with its domestic roaming charges for both calls and internet usage.
