Live: Sensex Cracks Over 350 Points, Nifty Below 8,350; Metal Stocks Bleed

3:16 p.m.: Cadila Healthcare (Cadila) shares jumped as much as 6 per cent to Rs 2033.5 on Wednesday after the company announced a stock split today.

3:14 p.m.: The Sensex fell 355 points to 27,510 and Nifty plunged 115 points to 8,347. Metal stocks were among the worst hit in trades so far. The BSE metal index was down 4.6 per cent.

Hindalco Plunges Over 5% as Novelis Posts Weak Q1

Sharemasterindia.com: Hindalco Industries shares fell over 5 per cent to hit intraday low of Rs 97.60 on Wednesday after its subsidiary Novelis, which contributes around 50 per cent to its consolidated revenues reported weak earnings for the June quarter.
 
Novelis, which is world's largest recycler of aluminium posted a net loss of $60 million for the April-June quarter compared to a net profit of $35 million in the corresponding quarter of last fiscal on account of lower average aluminium prices. Its revenue fell 2 per cent annually to $2,634 million against $2,680 million year-on-year.

Live: Sensex Off Day's Low, Nifty Above 8,400

Sharemasterindia.com 10.37 a.m.: Sensex trades 150 points lower at 27,716 and the Nifty is down 0.6 per cent at 8,411. Metal stocks lead selloff in market, the CNX metal index is down 2.7 per cent. Hindalco is the top loser in the metal index, down 4.69 per cent followed by Jindal Steel & Power, which is down 4.66 per cent.

10:17 a.m.: Bank Nifty falls 1 per cent; ICICI Bank, Canara Bank, Yes Bank, State Bank of India, Bank of India, Federal Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank were among the prominent laggards, down 1-2 per cent each.

10:00 a.m.: The markets extended losses in the morning trades. The Sensex fell 222 points to 27,628 and Nifty fell 70 points to 8,392.

Gujarat State Petronet Surges 13% on Strong Q1

Tata Motors in Focus Ahead of Q1 Earnings

Sharemasterindia.com: Tata Motors shares traded flat ahead of its June quarter results due later in the day. Analysts will be closely tracking how the Jaguar Land Rover-maker has performed in the key market of China.
 
Tata Motors shares are down 25 per cent over the last three months amid rising concerns about the slowdown in sales in China - the world's fastest-growing market. China caters to around one third of JLR's demand. On a consolidated level, JLR caters to around 80 per cent of Tata Motors annual sales.

2:17 p.m.: Finolex Cables Q1 net profit at Rs 70 crore against estimates of Rs 50 crore. Stock jumps 0.7 per cent to Rs 256.

Mahindra & Mahindra Q1 Net Dips, But Beats Estimates

Sharemasterindia.com: Mahindra & Mahindra's standalone net profit dipped 3.4 per cent year-on-year to Rs 852 crore in the June quarter as the utility vehicle maker struggled to push sales. However, M&M's Q1 net was ahead of estimates, analysts said.

Nestle India Soars 10% as FSSAI-Approved Lab Finds Maggi Noodles Safe

Sharemasterindia.com: Nestle India shares jumped as much as 10 per cent on Wednesday after a Food Safety Standards Authority of India-approved laboratory found Maggi noodles to be in compliance with the country's food safety standards.

The development is a big positive for Nestle India and is likely to pave the way for the return of the noodles brand back in the markets, analysts said. Nestle had to withdraw all varieties of the popular noodles in June amid country-wide scrutiny on Maggi for high content of monosodium glutamate (a taste enhancer) and lead in some samples.
